I Love Kids, but...
  Stephen Felstead   |   Wed 11th January 2012

According to my son, every time I get behind the wheel of a car I become a 'Slowbie' magnet. For those not familiar with the colloquialisms of my household, a 'Slowbie' is any driver who is incapable of driving above 22mph, or who drives agricultural or road repair vehicles. Like moths surrounding a light bulb, wherever I drive, slow drivers are drawn before me, often seemingly out of nowhere.

However, my magnetic skills of attraction aren't restricted to the road alone. Put me in a busy airport departure lounge and families with screaming children will soon surround me. And you might think it ironic, but as much as I love my own kids, and sometimes I might even momentarily consider taking them on holiday with me, I really can't abide other people's children. Perhaps, that's overstating it. But, if you're like me, you quake with fear when queuing at the departure gate to get on a busy flight and next to you amass a family with two brawling kids and a screaming baby. Worse still, that sixth sense that anybody who hates kids is born with soon starts telling you that this family is going to be seated near you. And as much as I may silently plead with God to seat them a minimum of fifteen rows from us, it invariably turns out that they're in the row behind us and a delightful five year old seated behind me insists on kicking the back of my seat for the entire duration of the ten hour flight. Naturally, I should complain to the parents, but the father is busily tearing phone books in half, so I decide not to disturb him.

So, it's with some irony that I have to admit that when we take the kids away, we generally look for child friendly resorts or locations. Over the years we've generally found that Thomson Holidays offer a good selection of holidays which appeal to both adults and kids alike. Also, my kids now feel ‘too cool’ to hang out with Mum and Dad and so we've found that the Thomson Family Resorts offer activities for the kids including swimming or football at their resort special academies. Plus, they're geared up for the grown-ups to have a great time on family holidays abroad too. So, the next time you want to take the little mites away for a week, you might want to check out the Family Resorts offered by Thomson.
